In our work life and personal life, we might not always have the best days. Sometimes we get so caught up in our to do lists we forget that we are supposed to be growing and nurturing our own life and body. Take some time out today and practice self care with our top ten tips.

1. Send flowers (or another present) to yourself

2. Read a book or watch a movie that will make you think or feel.

Sometimes we need to sit and have a cry, and that's totally ok. Life can be exhausting and being in tune with your emotions and having those days where you tap into how your feeling is so crucial to living a mentally healthy life. you can watch a movie or read a book you've never read before, or an old time favourite, but watching something that will inspire you, that makes you feel and makes you think, might be just what you need.

3. Read a trashy magazine or watch a reality tv show.

On the flip side, sometimes you just need to zone out for a little bit with some mindless tv! Watch your favourite show you've already watched twenty times before (hello, Friends!) or tune in to find out who the latest Bachelor is going to pick. 

4. Treat Yo' Self

 

Sometimes this might not be an option, but if you've been uhming and ahing over whether to buy a super cute outfit that you really, really want, this might be the time to buy it! Retail therapy is definitely a real thing and it can work wonders!

5. Take yourself out on a date

 

Whether you've been single for a year or a day, or you're currently happily married, everyone should be able to be comfortable by themselves. The longest relationship you will ever have is the one with the person in the mirror, so taking yourself out once in a while, whether to a restaurant, a movie or an event you've been wanting to go to, be ok going alone. It can be daunting at first, but so rewarding.

6. Have a mini spa day at home.

With so many affordable beauty products on the market these days there is no reason to not have a little pampering from the comfort of your own home. Grab a Lush Bath Bomb, chuck on some of your favourite tunes, run a bath and put on a sheet mask. You'll feel better in no time!

7. Call a family member or friend you haven't spoken to in person in a while.

 In this day and age, it's really easy to forget that the people we love are real, talking, living humans, and not just a quick message away. If you can't see them in person, pick up the phone and actually call them. For people like me, it can be really daunting to talk on the phone, but you will always feel better once you have done. There is nothing better than hearing someones real voice, rather than seeing their name appear on a screen.

8. Exercise.

 

I know the last thing most people want to do when they're not feeling 100% is to work out, but I guarantee you will not regret it. You may hate the thought of it, even during the entire workout you may be cursing yourself for even suggesting working out, but afterwards you will feel on top of the world! 

9. Make a meal completely from scratch

 

If you're really bad at cooking (me) then maybe start with a super basic meal instead of heading straight to Pinterest for a four course sit down dinner recipe. But making something from scratch (that's not mac n' cheese or Mie Goreng) will give you such a sense of pride and accomplishment.

10. Book a holiday!

 

This might be out of reach for some people, but booking a holiday today gives you something to look forward to on the days you just want to hide under your doona. Whether it be a small weekend away with friends or a week long trip to the Maldives, the allure of getting away and escaping the daily grind is a motivation like no other!

It is always ok to give yourself a little love and practice self care, and even take a mental health day!
