There is no denying that starting a business is one of the hardest and most exhausting (and rewarding!) things you could possibly do in your life. The amount of time, effort, tears and sweat put in by small business owners is hidden from our customers, but other Girl Bosses get the struggle! So we put together a list of things we believe all girl bosses need to thrive as a kick ass small business owner!
It's easy to get disorganised and have your head all over the place when you have a million things to do. Using an old school paper and pen planner can sometimes be more effective at organising and reflecting than many online apps and programs. I like to use the Daily Greatness Business Planner, but you can use any planner your heart is set on! Getting a cute bunch of stationery can help motivation levels too!
2. Motivational Book
Get a dose of girl power by reading a book (real or fiction) of women kicking ass!
Books we recommend:
- How To Be A Bawse by Lilly Singh
- Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
- Make It Happen by Michelle Bridges
3. Apps that do your job for you
PLANN is my life saviour. Seriously. When I'm not chasing toddlers and wondering where my coffee mug is, I'm trying to get a handle on social media, and I always seem to fall short at getting things right. Pricing can be free or a few dollars a month, and does all my Instagram planning for me. I only need to spend a few hours a fortnight and all my Instagram posts are posted for me at the best times for my page.
4. Self - love
Fleshing out some time for yourself every week is vital to running a business. You are under high stress every single day, and it's easy to feel unmotivated and burnt out when you feel so under the pump. Whatever makes you happy, and for no other reason - do it. Whether its having flowers sent to your door, a night out with friends, a night out just with yourself, eating all the food while binge watching your favourite TV show, it doesn't matter. Just put work out of your mind for one day/night, and wake up the next day feeling refreshed and tackle your work. You can't pour from an empty cup.
Get yourself some flowers delivered to your door from Local Love Co.!
5. Wine and/or coffee
May not apply to you but I highly recommend.
6. Girl Boss Mag
Sitting down with a magazine full of resources and information for business owners and stories of kick ass business women on the Peninsula is the essential of any Girl Bosses handbag. Subscribe today to receive the December issue.
7. Facebook Groups
Facebook Groups are a fantastic way to meet other like minded business women, bounce ideas off others, ask for advice, connect with suppliers and literally just show off your business and get much needed support. You may need to join a few before you find the one that you really *click* with, but finding the one is so worth it!
Some Facebook Groups I highly recommend:
8. Other businesswomen that get YOU
Following on from Facebook Groups, the road to business ownership can be a lonely one sometimes, especially if you're a 'soloprenuer.' Facebook groups are a great way to meet other business women, and meeting up regularly for a coffee is a way I have found to connect with women I wouldn't have otherwise. Women that GET what the struggle is to start and maintain a business. And it is so important to have that support to avoid burnout or just the all round crazies that can come with businesses.
9. A full list of Podcasts
Get stuck into a list of female empowerment podcasts while you work away, and literally feel the motivation and girl power fuelling you. Our top 3 pick of podcasts are:

10. Confidence and believing that you've got this!
